Privacy Policy
The short version. twodudesandahamster.com has no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. If you join one of our email lists, we keep your email address (and your first name, if you give it) so we can tell you about our games, starting with the Side Effects Are WHAT?! Kickstarter. We don't sell it or share it with anyone for their own marketing, and you can leave the list at any time.
What this policy covers
This policy explains how Two Dudes and a Hamster LLC ("we", "us") handles information on our website, twodudesandahamster.com, on our email lists, and when you email us. Our Hamster Oracle app has its own Hamster Oracle Privacy Policy, which applies when you use the app.
What we collect
- When you join an email list: your email address, your first name if you choose to give it, which list you joined (for example, Side Effects Are WHAT?!) and when you signed up.
- When you email us: your email address and whatever you write, so we can reply.
- When you visit the website: we don't use cookies, analytics, ad trackers or tracking pixels, and our fonts and images are served from our own site. Like most websites, the companies that host our site and our server keep basic technical records, such as your internet (IP) address, your browser type and the page you asked for, to keep their services secure and running.
- Spam protection: when you submit a signup form, our server briefly uses your IP address to limit repeated signups. It isn't saved with your signup.
How we use it
- To email you about the games on the list you joined: for Side Effects Are WHAT?!, that means the Kickstarter launch announcement, game news and updates, and chances to help bring the game to life.
- To reply to your messages.
- To protect the website and our email lists from spam and abuse.
We don't sell your information, we don't share it with other companies for their own marketing, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who handles it for us
We use a few service providers to run the website and our email. They handle information only to provide their service to us:
- Railway hosts our server and the database where email list signups are stored.
- GitHub (GitHub Pages) hosts the website.
- Cloudflare manages our domain name and forwards email sent to nathan@twodudesandahamster.com.
- Google (Gmail) is where our email is delivered and stored.
- An email-sending service: we don't use one yet. Before we send our first email to a list, we'll move the list to a service that delivers the emails, and we'll name it here.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
If Two Dudes and a Hamster LLC, or one of our games, is sold, merged or otherwise transferred to another company (for example, a game publisher), our email lists and the information in them may be transferred as part of that deal. The new owner must keep the promises in this policy for the information it receives, unless you agree otherwise.
Kickstarter
When our Kickstarter campaign launches, backing it happens on Kickstarter's website, under Kickstarter's own terms and privacy policy. If we later receive backer details from Kickstarter, for example to ship rewards, we'll update this policy first to explain how we handle them.
How long we keep it
- Email list details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we stop running that list.
- Emails you send us: as long as we need them to help you and keep a record of the conversation.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: every email we send to a list will include a link to unsubscribe. You can also email nathan@twodudesandahamster.com and we'll take you off the list.
- See, correct or delete your details: email nathan@twodudesandahamster.com and we'll take care of it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we keep, such as limiting who can access the signup list. No website or service is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.
Children
Our website and email lists are not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their information, email nathan@twodudesandahamster.com and we'll delete it.
Where your information is processed
We're based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. If we make a significant change to how we use email list addresses, we'll tell the people on the list before it applies.
